Fort Wayne kicked off National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week with a press conference on the lawn of the Allen County Courthouse today at noon. Agencies that served the homeless, interested citizens, and government officials came together to mark the start of a week full of events designed to bring awareness to a very real issue in our community.

The Homeless Coalition of Fort Wayne participated in the University of Saint Francis homeless & hungriness awareness campaign. The goal of the overnighting in the north-campus parking lot was to raise awareness. Following a field trip to the Rescue Mission, students participated in reading of literature by homeless authors, watching ‘Homeless to Harvard – The Liz Murray story’ and then spending a cold night in their cars, without heat.
